Assign - Mentoring ProjectATLAS (Action for Training and Learning for Asylum Seekers) Round 2 >>

Description

Assign ensures that asylum seekers have the continued opportunity to take part in a meaningful, inclusive programme that not only increases their employability but enables them to integrate pro-actively within the local community, with training developed to meet their needs.

The pilot phase met with such a positive response that a second development phase was put in place over 2005-08. This rolled out provision to a greater number of asylum seekers and refugees and was designed in direct consultation with the participants from our pilot phase.

Phase Two of Assign is working to expand the concept to further develop the skills and employability of asylum seekers and refugees. Assign was contracted to provide employability sessions and voluntary work placement opportunities to around 35 participants over a year, on a rolling programme basis.  Since the start of the project, 86 people have benefited from the programme (59 female and 27 male).  There are 60 people on the waiting list.
