West Ham Sets Sights on Free Agent Left-Back Juan Miranda

West Ham United looks to be bolstering their defensive options this summer with a focus on signing Spanish left-back Juan Miranda.

According to HITC, West Ham scouts watched Miranda in Real Betis’ recent clash against Celta Vigo. The 24-year-old has been on West Ham’s radar since January and is seen as a potential replacement for Aaron Cresswell.

Miranda, available on a free transfer in the summer, has attracted interest from Crystal Palace, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Brentford. His age, experience, and free agent status make him a desirable target for several clubs.

A product of Barcelona’s La Masia academy, Miranda has gained experience throughout Europe. After his debut for Barcelona in 2018, he had loan spells at Schalke and Real Betis before signing permanently with Betis in 2021.

Cresswell’s contract expires this summer, and his recent struggles against Bayer Leverkusen highlight the need for a replacement. While a player-coach role at West Ham has been mentioned, a new starting left-back appears more likely.

With Miranda available on a free transfer and Cresswell’s future uncertain, West Ham seems determined to secure Miranda’s signature. His experience and potential make him a valuable addition to the West Ham squad

Man City Playing Games with West Ham Over Paqueta Fee

As previously reported on CandH, Manchester City’s renewed interest in Lucas Paqueta feels like a classic case of buyer’s remorse. They clearly still want the Brazilian playmaker, but their latest tactic seems to be squeezing West Ham on price.

Let’s be honest, the timing of City’s reported desire for a lower fee is awfully convenient. It coincides perfectly with Paqueta’s recent dip in form. West Ham needs every penny they can get from a Paqueta sale to fund their summer rebuild, and City knows it.

This feels like a replay of past West Ham transfer sagas with Payet and Arnautovic. Players push for moves, and the club ends up accepting less than desired. West Ham can’t afford another repeat.

David Sullivan and Tim Steidten need to dig their heels in. Paqueta has a release clause for a reason. City can either pay it or walk away. West Ham needs the funds for their rebuild, and they shouldn’t be pressured into accepting a discounted price, especially considering Paqueta’s talent and potential.

The Bernardo Silva situation at City doesn’t change this. If they truly value Paqueta, they’ll pay the fair price. West Ham shouldn’t be bullied into a fire sale.

Steidten’s Summer Showdown

West Ham‘s Director of Football, Tim Steidten, faces a monumental task this summer. Having overseen successful signings like Alvarez, Kudus, and Mavropanos (with the occasional hiccup), he’s now entrusted with a massive summer rebuild.

Steidten’s summer showdown

West Ham seems to be embracing a more continental approach to transfers, a shift potentially influenced by Steidten’s background at Bayer Leverkusen.

Let us not forget that up to twelve players could be departing the club, potentially requiring significant squad turnover. Adding to the pressure, some key players like Soucek and Coufal might also need replacements.

Steidten’s recent trip to Brazil suggests a search for young talents with potential, a shift away from expensive established players. This strategy could unearth hidden gems like Paqueta or Kudus at bargain prices.

Steidten’s challenge is clear: rebuild a potentially depleted West Ham squad with limited financial resources. His ability to identify and acquire young talent will be crucial for the club’s future success.

Irons looking at Pavlidis

West Ham United faces a significant summer rebuild, with a focus on bolstering their aging and depleted squad.

The Hammers have a pressing need for at least one, if not two, new strikers. Michail Antonio’s age and Danny Ings’ lack of form and inability to fit in with David Moyes‘ system necessitate reinforcements.

West Ham has long been linked with Greek striker Vangelis Pavlidis. His performances against them in European competition last season left an impression. With his contract expiring next year, Pavlidis reportedly desires a Premier League move, and AZ Alkmaar is willing to sell for a reasonable £12-15 million. This price tag makes him a potential bargain for a versatile 25-year-old attacker.

West Ham’s summer rebuild is crucial. The potential addition of Pavlidis, coupled with a possible second attacker, offers an exciting prospect for fans. Steidten’s ability to identify talent and secure value for money will be key to the club’s success.

West Ham set to adopt new financial model

The Premier League appears to be set to replace Financial Fair Play (FFP) and Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR)

A number of alternative options, such as a luxury tax and a salary cap, have been discussed  but the top flight league appears ready to press ahead with a basic squad-cost ratio system.

This model will allow clubs to spend up to 85 per cent of their revenue on transfers, wages and agent fees. A similar system is being adopted by UEFA whereby clubs in European competition can only spend 70 per cent of their income.

Last Thursday Premier League shareholders meeting saw the 20 clubs hold two votes on the new rules, according to Sky Sports, one of which reached a unanimous verdict. Now said to be agreed in principle, the league will aim to enshrine in it their rulebook at their summer AGM.

As West Ham turnover was £237m last season it would mean they could spend £201m on wages, agent fees and transfers.

With the Hammers wages running around £137m and £13m  of agent fees that new financial model would leave around £51m in transfer amortisation for West Ham.

As West Ham have been abiding by the UFEA financial control system this does not pose a problem for the club.

Juventus snub Hammers flop

Felipe Anderson has taken to social media to announce that he will not be renewing his contract with Lazio, as he has officially signed with Palmeiras despite being linked to Juventus.

His current contract with Lazio is set to expire on June 30, and despite lengthy negotiations, no agreement has been reached.

Reports suggested that Lazio’s new coach, Igor Tudor, had been forced to make a decision rather than have Anderson remain until his contract expired.

Anderson cost West Ham a fortune in lost transfer fees

Hammers record signing for NOTHING. Former West Ham winger Felipe Anderson has joined Palmeiras

The former West Ham winger had been expected to join Juventus. However, it appears the Italian giants got cold feet over the transfer, which is completely understandable. Whilst Anderson is clearly a talented player, he can be incredibly inconsistent.

The Hammers spent £34 million on the Brazilian, who at the time was our record transfer. To say the move was a failure would be an understatement, with the Hammers losing almost £30 million on the deal.

Speaking on his social media account, Anderson said: “Out of respect for Lazio and the fans who have always supported me, I must confirm that I have not reached a renewal agreement with the club. I will be pursuing a new direction next season.”

“I have always demonstrated my professionalism and dedication to Lazio, and I assure you that I will continue to honour this jersey with full commitment until the last day of my contract.

“Thank you for everything!”

West Ham still interested in Brownhill

West Ham United are still interested in signing Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

Brownhill has been a standout performer for Burnley this season, contributing four goals and three assists in 32 appearances across all competitions. He boasts an impressive all-around game, averaging 1.8 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 1.3 clearances, 0.9 shots, and 1.0 key passes per game in the Premier League. His distribution is also noteworthy, with an 80.5% pass success rate (stats via whoscored).

Brownhill’s current contract at Burnley expires at the end of the season, making him a potential free transfer target for West Ham. This adds significant appeal, especially considering his strong performances.

West Ham views Brownhill as a valuable addition to bolster their midfield options.  His versatility, with the ability to play box-to-box, as a number ten, or even defensively, makes him a desirable target.

West Ham faces competition from Crystal Palace and Brentford in the race to sign Brownhill. All three clubs recognise the potential he brings and will likely vie for his signature in the upcoming transfer window.

At 28, Brownhill is entering his prime and his expiring contract presents a cost-effective opportunity for West Ham. His experience and skillset could significantly enhance West Ham’s midfield, making him a player worth pursuing.

Mavropanos Slammed for Defensive Errors

West Ham United‘s recent defeat to Fulham has sparked criticism, with pundits highlighting defensive blunders as a major factor in the loss.

Sloppy Mavrapanos

This defeat wasn’t an isolated incident. TalkSPORT pundit Peter Groves pointed out the similarities to West Ham’s previous away game against Fulham this season, suggesting a pattern of defensive frailties.

Groves lamented the overall performance, criticizing a lack of fight and determination from the West Ham players. He further emphasized the costly individual errors that directly led to Fulham’s goals.

The first goal conceded by West Ham was particularly poor.  Mavropanos  attempted to control a long ball in the penalty area instead of clearing it immediately. This hesitation allowed Andreas Pereira to capitalise and score.

Groves expressed his outrage at the Greek internationals decision, questioning a centre-back’s rationale for trying to control the ball in such a dangerous area. He emphasised the importance of clearing the ball as a basic defensive principle.

While Mavrapanos has generally improved his game, Groves highlighted a concerning trend where his mistakes seem to occur more frequently when partnered with Nayef Aguerd. This suggests a potential lack of defensive coordination between the two defenders

The coaching staff needs to address these issues to prevent similar costly errors in upcoming matches.

Johnson Thrust into Spotlight for Crucial European Clash

Ben Johnson finds himself in a pivotal role for the Irons as they prepare for a do-or-die Europa League second leg against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday. The 24-year-old full-back’s uncertain contract situation adds another layer of intrigue to this high-pressure encounter.

Fed Up Hammer_Ben Johnson played himself into first team contention

Johnson in spotlight

Despite ongoing negotiations for a new contract, Johnson remains a vital player for the Hammers. His versatility will be crucial as West Ham seeks to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg.

The task for West Ham is significant. Key players Lucas Paqueta (suspended) and Jarrod Bowen (injured) are sidelined, further straining the squad’s depth.

Johnson, primarily a right-back, has proven his adaptability throughout the season, even playing on the left wing against Arsenal. With Emerson Palmieri suspended, Johnson could be tasked with containing Leverkusen’s attacking talents like Nathan Tella, Jonas Hofmann, Amine Adli, and Florian Wirtz.

David Moyes‘ recent preference for Aaron Cresswell could see him starting at left-back, potentially pushing Johnson into a more attacking role.

Overturning a two-goal deficit requires a monumental effort from West Ham. Johnson’s versatility and determination could be instrumental in achieving this seemingly improbable feat. All eyes will be on him as he takes centre stage for the Hammers on Thursday night.

Cheeky Man City looking for Paqueta on the cheap

Man City looking for Paqueta at a reduced rate

According to Foot Mercato, cheeky Manchester City is trying to secure a deal for West Ham midfielder Lucas Paquetá without paying his £85 million release clause.

Last summer, the two clubs nearly finalised a transfer for the Brazilian midfielder, with City initially prepared to meet the release clause. However, the agreement collapsed at the last minute when the FA announced an investigation into alleged betting breaches involving the player.

Man City are trying to drive down the price for Paqueta

Paqueta in the cheap? I don’t think so Pep

City are now reportedly looking to lower the transfer fee rather than triggering the buyout clause. How solid this report is remains to be seen, but Paqueta has looked increasingly frustrated over recent games for West Ham.

The story is bizarrely timed given the news that Manchester United are considering entering the bidding for the Hammers playmaker.

City famously entered the bidding for Declan Rice during the summer but withdrew their interest once Arsenal bid over £100m for the then Irons captain.

Realistically, Man City need to pay up or shut up. West Ham don’t need to sell Lucas and the only reason he’s available is because of the clause.
