Amorim capture would be the ultimate ambition

The Ruben Amorim to West Ham rumours are spreading like wildfire, with mainstream media now reporting The Hammers’ interest as fact.

As ever, Claret & Hugh have contacted their top sources within the club, but they remain tight-lipped. The official stance remains the same… David Moyes‘ managerial position will be assessed at the end of the season.

Unofficially, it appears that even Moyes himself is resigned to leaving East London, and the club is actively looking at replacements.

Signing Amorim would demonstrate the ultimate ambition from West Ham

Ambitious coach with a bright future

Amorim is considered one of the brightest coaching talents in world football. The top division in Portugal is always considered a three-horse race, but the truth is that Sporting hadn’t finished above Porto or Benfica for years before Amorim came along.

He plays great football and is brilliant with youth players, but he was handed a lesson in the Europa League by Atalanta’s Gasperini. However, that shouldn’t detract from the fine work he’s done at both Sporting and Braga.

Personally, I’m still struggling to get my head around West Ham paying a transfer fee for a manager. We’ve always paid big wages, even going back as far as Sam Allardyce, who was one of the world’s highest-paid managers even in the Championship. Manuel Pellegrini was also on a significant wage, yet for some reason, this seems bigger.

It would show an enormous amount of ambition for West Ham to poach one of the brightest young talents in world football. It would also be concrete evidence of a project in progress that began with Tim Steidten’s recruitment last year.

I still need some convincing, and I’m half expecting David Moyes to renew or Steve Bruce to be appointed with Tony Pulis as his assistant. However, if the Hammers’ ownership manages to pull this coup off, it has the potential to be the singular move that truly propels the club forward.

West Ham Eye Defensive Overhaul

Former West Ham United striker Frank McAvennie has called for a significant defensive overhaul at the club. The Hammers legend has suggested a triple signing of two centre-backs and a goalkeeper should be a priority this summer.

West Ham Eye Defensive Overhaul

McAvennie is not impressed with the current crop of defenders, including goalkeepers Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski. He has previously criticised centre-backs Kurt Zouma and Konstantinos Mavropanos.

The former striker seems to be one of the few impressed with Vladimir Coufal at right-back and has suggested he should be part of the defensive rebuild. McAvennie emphasised the need for players who fight for the team, a quality he sees in Coufal.

Despite Areola’s generally positive performances this season, McAvennie believes both he and Fabianski are expendable. This stance highlights the desire for a complete defensive refresh.

McAvennie’s criticism of Zouma and Mavropanos’ error-prone displays is well documented. He believes their inconsistencies have placed an undue burden on the attackers like Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen.

With Emerson Palmieri seemingly established at left-back, McAvennie suggests three signings in central positions would solidify West Ham’s defence and propel them to the next level.

McAvennie’s comments reflect the growing frustration amongst West Ham fans regarding the team’s defensive frailties. The upcoming summer transfer window provides an opportunity for a significant defensive overhaul, potentially shaping the club’s fortunes in the upcoming season.

Steinberg criticises useless Hammers

The Guardian‘s Irons supporting Jacob Steinberg wasn’t shy in criticising West Ham‘s performance, calling them “useless” after falling behind 4-0 within 31 minutes at Selhurst Park. This feeble showing came just days after a Europa League quarter-final against Bayer Leverkusen.

Steinberg pointed to Aston Villa, who played 120 minutes and a penalty shootout in the Conference League just days before their convincing 3-1 victory over Bournemouth. This comparison highlighted West Ham’s lack of resilience, squad rotation and fitness.

Hammers fan Steinberg was critical of West Ham’s performance against Palace

Despite sitting eighth in the Premier League table, West Ham’s hopes of returning to Europe next season are fading. Their goal difference has taken a significant hit, putting them at a disadvantage compared to other contenders. Furthermore, teams around them are in better form, making the top-six chase an almost impossible battle.

And after being played off the park for a second London derby in a row, the week just gone may have dealt West Ham’s hopes of playing any football on the continent next season a fatal blow.

Only last week Jacob write an excellent piece whereby he described the ‘be careful what you wish for’ mantra as ‘unhelpful’ and stifling debate. . .  we couldn’t agree more.

Serie A Club feel ripped off by Hammers transfer

Torino may be second-guessing their decision to secure Nikola Vlasic on a permanent transfer from West Ham United last summer, as his performance this season has fallen short of expectations.

According to Torino Granata, which has been closely monitoring the player, Vlasic needs to make a significant impact in the remaining games after a lacklustre season.

They note that the Croatian is one of the most expensive and highest-paid players in the Torino squad, having been acquired from West Ham for €9.5 million and given a contract worth €1.7 million net annually until 2027.

Vlasic has flopped at two consecutive clubs which begs the question of why he was signed in the first place

Despite the high hopes, Vlasic has struggled to live up to the financial investment. He has only sporadically influenced games for Ivan Juric’s team this season. Although Juric has shown unwavering support for his fellow Croatian, Vlasic has yet to repay that faith with strong performances, contributing just three goals and two assists so far this season.

Meanwhile, West Ham, who initially invested £27 million in Vlasic, might feel some relief, considering he was largely out of favour and underappreciated by manager David Moyes during his time at the club.

Paqueta’s Release Clause

West Ham United could be forced to let star player Lucas Paqueta leave the club this summer if his release clause is activated, according to football finance expert Dan Plumley.

Lucas Paqueta is needed for the next games

Paqueta’s contract reportedly includes an £85 million release clause, a significant hurdle for any interested club. However, if an offer matching that valuation arrives, West Ham would have no choice but to negotiate with the player and his representatives..

Plumley explains that West Ham included the release clause during Paqueta‘s signing from Lyon in 2022. While this clause carries risk, it also benefits the club in the initial stages of a player’s contract when their value is rising.

If a club triggers the release clause, Paqueta would have the right to discuss personal terms with the potential buyer. This leverage could influence his decision to stay or leave West Ham.

Including release clauses is a calculated risk in modern transfers. West Ham gambled on benefiting from Paqueta’s potential early success, but now faces the possibility of losing him if a big offer comes in.

Plumley suggests that Paqueta might attract interest from Champions League clubs this summer. This, combined with the release clause, makes his departure a real possibility for West Ham.

West Ham’s decision to include a release clause in Paqueta’s contract could backfire if a major club triggers it. While the club would receive a significant fee, losing a key player would be a major blow. But judging him on his recent performances, it is safe to assume that his mind has been already made up.

Report: Moyes replacement flies to London to sign Hammers deal

According to breaking news reports, Ruben Amorim travelled to London this afternoon to meet with the owners of West Ham.

The Sporting Lisbon coach reportedly left Portugal accompanied by businessman Raul Costa on a private jet provided by the Hammers. The reports were accompanied by a photo of Amorim walking towards a private jet, although there is little evidence of the plane’s destination.

Amorim supposedly boarding a West Ham chartered jet to London

Hammers manager David Moyes has come under increasing pressure following yesterdays humiliating loss to Crystal Palace. However, club sources are adamant that they will not make any decision on the managers future until the end of the season.

Hiring the 39-year-old coach would be an incredibly ambitious move for West Ham. As mentioned earlier on C&H, Amorim has a hefty buyout clause in the region of £20 million, so hiring him will not be inexpensive.

David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano have both confirmed the Hammers’ interest in the Portuguese coach today. Reports suggest that Amorim is West Ham’s top target. However, former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui is also in the running and is currently residing in England. Lopetegui was reported last night to have turned down the chance to coach Milan in order to sign with The Hammers.

No decision taken on manager this season

No decision has been taken on David Moyes future and the club plans to honour his contract and concentrate on the remaining Premier League games. A final decision will only be taken after the season finishes according to club insider.

While the 60-year-old appears to be a dead man walking it appears the board want to wait to see what options are available before they sit down with David Moyes in their normal end of season review.

Many names have already been linked for the managers hotspot this and many more will continue to be linked as June approaches.

Ruben Amorim and Julen Lopetegui are new names which have appeared in the past twenty four hours while Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna is another name that continues to be linked.

Another Tim Steidten suggestion could end up former West Ham coach now Borussia Dortmund manager Edin Terzić.

Other reported names include former Al Duhail manager Christophe Galtier, AZ Alkmaar manager Arne Slot, Lille boss Paulo Fonseca, Nottingham Forest coach Steve Cooper and former Chelsea manager Graham Potter.

West Ham hold a long-term interest in Thomas Tuchel, but it seems unrealistic despite his situation at Bayern Munich so he would most likely reject any approach.

Jose Mourinho is not seen as a suitable replacement.

West Ham’s massive Amorim hurdle

David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano have confirmed West Ham’s interest in Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim this afternoon.

The Portuguese coach was previously rumoured to be a potential successor to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool this summer. However, various news outlets are now reporting that the Anfield club will look elsewhere for a new coach.

It should be noted that West Ham attracting a coach of Amorim’s calibre is highly unlikely, especially with the prospect of no European football next season. The former Braga boss is highly regarded and is believed to be content continuing his work at Sporting.

Amorim has been approached by West Ham according to various reports

Additionally, there is the matter of Amorim’s release clause. Sporting Lisbon paid over £11 million to release the 39-year-old from his Braga contract, and it is understood that his current buyout clause is at least double that amount.

The West Ham board are not in the habit of spending large sums on compensation for managers, and it’s hard to imagine a scenario where they would start. While hiring Amorim would demonstrate significant ambition on the part of the club, other available managers like Fonseca and Lopetegui are free and far more likely candidates.

Rice sale will help boost West Ham turnover to around £368m

A £100m plus bid from Arsenal for West Ham captain Declan Rice is believed to be imminent.

West Ham could record record turnover of £368m thanks to a good European run and the sale of Declan Rice in this financial year.

This season West Ham will book a full £100m profit on Declan Rice as he was sold to Arsenal on 15th July last year six years after the Hammers’ financial year-end.

In a twist of fate, sales are recorded in the single financial year they are sold in the accounts, unlike incoming transfers which are spread over the life of the contract.

West Ham spent around £105m last summer in transfer fees but as these transfers are amortised over four years so around £35m will recorded in this season’s accounts.

West Ham is likely to earn £150m from Premier League TV money this season with an Equal share of £91.7m,  TV facility fees: £17.8m, and merit payment: £40.3m if the Hammers finish eighth.

Add to this an estimated £23.5mm earned from the Europa League cup price money run to the quarter-finals.

Ticket match day revenue is likely to reach £45m plus commercial/sponsorship of another £35m revenue plus retail sales of around £14.5m

That would create a record turnover for this season of around £368m way above the £253m recorded two seasons ago.

Summer signings are likely to come after the financial year ends at the end of May so expect West Ham to make a massive profit on paper.

Hammers Target Corinthians Youngster

West Ham United are reportedly turning their attention to the Brazilian Serie A, with 19-year-old winger Wesley Gassova of Corinthians emerging as a transfer target.

This move suggests a potentially new transfer strategy for the Hammers, with a focus on acquiring young talent.

The Sunday Mirror claims West Ham are preparing to initiate talks with Corinthians for Gassova, whose contract runs until December 2027. The youngster has already gained experience, featuring nearly 60 times for the Sao Paulo-based club since his debut two years ago.

Gassova’s age presents a question mark, as young South American players can struggle to adapt to the Premier League’s intensity. However,  his potential outweighs the risk, and his signing could represent a gamble worth taking.

This potential transfer could signal a shift in West Ham’s transfer policy under technical director Tim Steidten. Previously, the club may have been criticised for a lack of imagination in the transfer market. Targeting young talents like Gassova suggests a more forward-thinking approach.

While Gassova’s current statistics of four goals and three assists in 56 appearances might not be eye-catching, But with his age and the prospect of significant development he could be worth a punt. Ultimately, the transfer fee will likely be a major deciding factor. If West Ham can secure Gassova for a reasonable price, the potential rewards could be substantial.
