Triple Euro winner warns Hammers ahead of Palace

Hammers star Emerson is expecting a tough game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park tomorrow.

One might not think that a player who has won every European trophy would be overly concerned by a trip to a mid-table Premier League team. However, the Hammers’ left-back was keen to remind everyone that West Ham have not performed too well against the Eagles recently.

When speaking to the press ahead of the fixture, Emerson said, “Crystal Palace won against Liverpool at Anfield, which is a big result for them. We know of their quality because we lost both games against them last season, and this season at home we drew. We know their strengths when they play at home and the atmosphere will be good after a big result. It’s not easy to play against Liverpool at Anfield, but they won.

Emerson has not enjoyed the best of times against Palace

“We are expecting a big game and I think the last few games of every season are tough because every team is fighting for important places in the table.”

Palace’s motivation could be a big factor. They are safe from relegation but too far off the European places. That being said, their performance against Liverpool was scintillating at times and they are clearly enjoying life under a new regime.

West Ham will have to be at their best to get anything from this game, but nothing less than a win will do.

How Bowen nearly signed for Newcastle

Steve Bruce has disclosed that Newcastle United came incredibly close to signing Jarrod Bowen before he opted for West Ham United in January 2020.

Bruce, who first signed Bowen for Hull City from non-league Hereford in 2014, was keen on a reunion at St James’ Park. Bowen, who scored 54 goals in 131 appearances for Hull, caught the attention of several Premier League clubs, with the race coming down to West Ham and Newcastle on deadline day. Unfortunately for Bruce and the Magpies, they were unable to meet Hull’s reported £14 million asking price.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Bruce said, “I have a big affinity with him. I brought Jarrod into professional football for just £50,000 when he was 16, so I’ve followed his progress closely. We nearly had him again at Newcastle. I actually had him waiting at Wetherby Services, ready to come to Newcastle, but we couldn’t finalize the deal, and he ended up at West Ham. He’s definitely one that got away.”

Bowen himself has shared his perspective on the transfer saga. Last year, he revealed, “On deadline day, I was sure I was going to Newcastle because of Steve Bruce. I was even looking at houses, thinking it was a done deal. But then, Newcastle backed out over the fee. Hull wanted £14 million plus £6 million in add-ons, which included an England call-up—a milestone I didn’t see happening at the time.”

“I assumed I’d stay at Hull after that. I went to training thinking nothing would change, but then I was told Hull had accepted a bid from West Ham. It was a total surprise.”

A lucky break for us Irons fans, the twist of fate that brought Bowen to the London Stadium is a fortunate stroke of luck. Football is full of near-misses in the transfer market, but this is one instance where West Ham clearly came out on top.

Key players return is vital for Palace win

Emerson is eager to re-join the West Ham United line-up for Sunday’s crucial Premier League match against Crystal Palace, as the team strives to secure European competition for next season.

His absence was keenly felt during Thursday night’s Europa League game against Leverkusen. In a closely contested match, Emerson’s presence might have tipped the scales in favour of West Ham but his return now is vital.

Emerson’s improvement this season has been startling and he’s become a key player. His partnership with Lucas Paqueta has been particularly impressive down the Hammers left flank.

West Ham's makeshift team performed well against Brighton.

Emerson is key to West Ham’s chances

Looking ahead, Emerson and his Brazilian teammate Lucas Paquetá will be vital for the remainder of the season. Paquetá commented, “It’s great to play alongside Emerson. He understands my playing style and reads my body language, which really enhances our connection on the field.

“We also played together at Lyon, and even though we weren’t as close back then as we are now, our understanding was evident. Having him on the team is a huge boost, not just for individual support but for the overall team dynamic. We share a strong bond off the field too; we’re like family.”

For West Ham to qualify for European competition again, the synergy between Emerson and Paquetá will be crucial, starting with the upcoming match against Palace.

CandH Exclusive: Hurry up or Paqueta stays

West Ham are growing increasingly confident that they will retain Lucas Paqueta despite interest from other clubs.

During an exclusive update to Claret & Hugh, a top source at the club indicated that any buyout clause for Paqueta comes with a time limit, suggesting that such clauses are only active for a single transfer window. Additionally, it seems unlikely any club will place a bid while the FA’s investigation into betting irregularities involving the player is ongoing.

Clock is ticking for anyone trying to sign Lucas Paqueta

West Ham have not disclosed the exact duration of this ‘one-time chance to buy’ clause, but it is believed to apply to just one window. This implies that if the investigation extends beyond the summer transfer window, the clause would expire unused.

The source told C&H, “The offer has to be made by a certain date. Nobody will bid [for Paqueta] while he’s still under investigation by the FA regarding betting on yellow cards.”

As the clock ticks down, it appears less likely that any club, including Manchester City, will be able to make a bid. Internally, West Ham has no intention of selling Paqueta; without the activation of the buyout clause, there is no deal on the table.

Angry Moyes last ditch bid to save Hammers career

David Moyes is facing a crucial game tomorrow at Selhurst Park.

Labelling the fixture as a ‘must-win’ might seem sensationalistic with a sprinkling of clickbait, but I truly believe it is. In many respects, West Ham are looking at their last opportunity to qualify for Europe this season, though we are reliant on others failings too.

West Ham, currently eighth, still have to play Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Liverpool, Luton, and Manchester City. The Chelsea game feels particularly significant, but only if Moyes can secure wins against Palace, Luton, and possibly pull off a surprise result against one of the title chasers too.

It’s been an amazing experience chasing European football for the past few seasons, and I’m grateful to Moyes for that. However, with a new rebuild on the horizon and Tim Steidten in place as director of football, it feels like the end of an era.

The rhetoric from Moyes and his allies in the mainstream media also seems to have been ramped up to eleven over the past week. The messaging of ‘be careful what you wish for’ towards West Ham fans had certainly intensified in the build-up to the Europa League quarter-final. The cacophony of noise was so loud and with so many individuals saying the same thing that it seemed more than just coincidence.

Moyes tells fans West Ham have some injury problems

Moyes has come out fighting by justifying his Hammers tenure

Dead man walking?

It felt like the propaganda of a man who knows he’s on the way out and was trying to justify his CV. Whilst Moyes has never been the most canny of media operators, he would often offer at least faint or damning praise to West Ham fans. However, during his last two media briefings, he’s been more bullish and in no mood to placate supporters.

In short, I believe he’s past caring, and it’s something I’ve seen before. Roy Hodgson for England, Kenny Dalglish’s second stint at Liverpool, and Nigel Pearson at Leicester all had the look of angry, broken men before they departed.

Moyes can turn it around, though. Were he to qualify for Europe again, then David Sullivan would be placed in a very difficult position. It’s going to be tough, though, and the Hammers need to start with a tricky game at Selhurst Park.

C&H Exclusive: City must pay or Paqueta will stay

City must pay or Paqueta will stay: Hammers will not haggle over Brazilian

Manchester City will not be acquiring Lucas Paqueta on the cheap. That’s the latest from West Ham, as Claret & Hugh spoke to its top source at the club.

While the club are understandably reticent to discuss the full details of any player’s buyout clause, they are clearly not in the mood to be haggled with.

Manchester City are rumoured to be preparing a second bid for the Brazilian playmaker, but it is thought to be below the release clause, which is believed to be £85M. That news has not gone down well inside the London Stadium, and they have made their thoughts known to us this morning.

Rejuvenated Lucas Paqueta will not go to City on the cheap

City must pay or Paqueta will stay

When C&H asked its top source at West Ham about any developments on the Paqueta transfer, the answer was unequivocal. “We will not accept less than the buyout on any player,” and the club was also keen to stress that they are looking to strengthen, rather than sell, in the summer transfer window. The club is not in a position where it has to sell players, which has been made abundantly clear.

The message to Man City (or anyone else) was forthright: either they pay the full release clause or there will be no transfer for Lucas Paqueta, and he will stay at West Ham.

Key men missing for Palace game

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has announced that Jefferson Lerma will miss the upcoming Premier League game against West Ham at Selhurst Park. The match is crucial for David Moyes’s side, with us aiming to secure European competition for the fourth consecutive season.

Lerma, who joined from Bournemouth on a free transfer last summer, has been a regular fixture in the team, appearing 30 times in all competitions this season. Recently, he has been part of a back three in Glasner’s setup due to the absence of Chris Richards and Marc Guehi.

The Eagles are eager to achieve back-to-back wins for the first time under Glasner, who took over from Roy Hodgson. The return of Rob Holding to the matchday squad is a welcome boost for the team. Holding has been side-lined since before the new year due to an ankle surgery but is now ready to re-join the team.

Marc Guehi’s absence will give The Hammers attack a chance

Glasner commented on the team’s situation, saying, “We have one new injury concern from the Liverpool match — Jefferson Lerma, who will be out until at least the Manchester United game. I’m pleased Rob Holding is back; he trained with us all week and will be part of the squad.”

Additionally, Glasner noted there are uncertainties regarding three other players: “Chris Richards just had his first light training session back with us today. Joel Ward has been dealing with a groin issue this week, and Will Hughes suffered a knock in training yesterday. We’ll make the final decisions on their involvement tomorrow.”

The Palace injury news could be good news for West Ham’s attack. If Moyes wished to take full advantage of The Eagles defensive woes then he must surely start with Bowen, Kudus, Antonio and Paqueta.

Championships top player wants to join Hammers

West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Sammie Szmodics, a lifelong Hammers fan who has been in outstanding form this season.

It has taken some time for the former Colchester player’s career to truly ignite. Szmodics has become the top scorer in the second tier, netting 24 goals in 41 games. His total of 30 goals across all competitions has made him the first Blackburn player to reach this milestone since Alan Shearer in the 1995/96 season. This marks a significant breakthrough for the 28-year-old, whose previous best was 16 goals for Peterborough United in the 2020/21 season.

West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing Sammie Szmodics who believes he is ready to step up

Now a star at Blackburn Rovers, Szmodics feels he is prepared to ascend to the Premier League. The prolific attacking midfielder has captured the attention of several clubs, thanks to his remarkable goal-scoring feats this campaign.

“I would like to think I’m ready to make the step up,” he shared with Talksport. “But, It’s really about getting the opportunity to show what I can do at that level.

“Hopefully, I’ve proved to those who doubted my ability in the Championship. I know that I can step up and succeed at the top level. We’ll see what the future holds, but it’s everyone’s dream to play in the Premier League.”

New Palace boss may be a match for Moyes

Crystal Palace have a new manager at the helm ahead of their clash with West Ham United at Selhurst Park, and he’s already making waves. Let’s delve into what David Moyes and his team can expect from this Sunday’s Premier League matchup.

In his first two months as manager, Oliver Glasner has demonstrated that while patience is essential, his tactics are steering the team in the right direction, as evidenced by an impressive and deserved win against Liverpool.

Glasner’s approach in that game involved using just one recognised centre-back, Joachim Andersen, alongside midfielder Jefferson Lerma. This adjustment was crucial, signalling a shift towards a more proactive style of play, away from the reactive tactics previously employed.

Familiar foes: Oliver Glasner & David Moyes

Known for his dedication, Glasner is reportedly the first to arrive and the last to leave at the club’s Copers Cope training ground in Beckenham. His commitment has convinced many at the club that he’s the right person to elevate the team to new heights.

Small steps to improvement

Although immediate results have varied, performance metrics show an improvement in possession, chance creation, and physical output under Glasner’s guidance.

He has also introduced three minor but significant changes to the team’s routine. Unlike his predecessors Patrick Vieira and Roy Hodgson, who gave players a day off after matches, Glasner insists on next-day recovery sessions to optimize physical recuperation and tactical debriefing. This change aims to prevent injuries and setbacks, particularly after away matches.

Additionally, while Vieira required players to arrive three hours before kickoff—a practice changed to two hours under Hodgson—Glasner has reinstated the three-hour arrival rule for the last two games. Players now share a pre-game meal and receive the starting lineup during a brief meeting before heading to the stadium, a ritual Glasner brought from his tenure at Eintracht Frankfurt.

These changes have reportedly been well-received by the team, who have embraced new methods and styles of play. The victory against Liverpool has injected belief into the squad, and they look to build on this momentum in their upcoming game against West Ham.

Sarri identifies signing to mend Hammers midfield

Maurizio Sarri is poised to restart his managerial career in the Premier League, and he might bring two Lazio stars with him. The former Chelsea manager believes he can resolve West Ham’s midfield issues by recruiting a former Arsenal player, Matteo Guendouzi, to East London. It remains uncertain what Hammers director of football Tim Steidten would think of such a move, however theses are only rumours at this stage.

Italian media reports suggest that Sarri regrets his departure from Chelsea and is eager to return to Premier League coaching after this season concludes.

Recently turning down an offer from Nottingham Forest, Sarri has received proposals from both Newcastle United and West Ham through his agent, Frank Trimboli, but he has not yet made a decision.

Sarri believes Matteo Guendouzi would fix West Ham’s midfield problems

Sarri is holding out for more concrete offers from Premier League clubs, hoping to secure around €50 million in backing to attract Lazio players Alessio Romagnoli and Matteo Guendouzi to whichever team he manages next. Both players have been staunch supporters of Sarri during his tenure at Lazio and might be persuaded to join him.

The 65-year-old is currently spending time with his family in Castelfranco but is ready to return to the coaching fray soon.
