Amorim approach means West Ham have changed course

West Ham United’s pursuit of Ruben Amorim, the coveted Sporting CP manager, receives a spark of hope thanks to journalist David Ornstein’s comments.

Amorim, a 39-year-old tactician, is expected to leave Portugal at the end of the season. West Ham and Liverpool are among the clubs vying for his signature.

Ornstein, while acknowledging the unlikelihood of Amorim choosing West Ham as his top destination, reveals a key detail that will excite Hammers fans: the West Ham project holds some appeal for the Portuguese manager. This suggests there’s still a chance for the London club to turn things around.

West Ham’s interest in Amorim stems from their potential need for a new manager when David Moyes‘ contract expires at season’s end. Amorim’s impressive track record, including a league title, multiple cup wins, and the current dominance of the Portuguese league with Sporting CP, makes him a highly desirable candidate.

The attacking, possession-based style Amorim employs is another factor that resonates with West Ham fans. Many have voiced their desire for a more proactive approach compared to the conservative tactics often used by Moyes.

While the road to securing Amorim remains challenging, Ornstein’s insights offer a glimmer of hope. The door is not completely closed, and West Ham can still make a case for their project to convince the talented manager to join them.

Hammers in Race Against Time

West Ham United finds itself in a midfield muddle as their hunt for a new manager stalls, leaving a major squad overhaul hanging in the balance.

West Ham-London Stadium_stadium-Hammers dodge a bullet with 777 Partners

David Moyes‘ expected departure necessitates the appointment of a new leader at the London Stadium. Fan excitement initially surrounded Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim, who even flew in for talks. However, recent reports have delivered some doubts over Amorim

This unexpected setback throws a wrench into the club’s summer plans. West Ham needs a manager in place fast, not just for leadership but to spearhead a significant squad rebuild. At least ten new signings are deemed crucial, but the task is compounded by the existing squad’s shortcomings. West Ham has one of the Premier League’s smallest squads, further burdened by being the second oldest in the top flight.

Reports suggest a last-ditch effort to secure Amorim, underlining the club’s preference for the Portuguese manager. However, time is running out. The transfer window opens on June 14th, and a protracted managerial search could prove disastrous. The chosen manager’s philosophy heavily influences the type of players West Ham targets, making a swift appointment crucial.

West Ham sits at a crossroads. Can they convince Amorim and expedite the rebuild process? Or will they be forced to explore alternative managerial options while simultaneously addressing the pressing need for squad reinforcements? The coming weeks will be telling as the Hammers strive to navigate this challenging double play.

Irons Cast Wider Net in Managerial Search

West Ham United’s search for a new manager to succeed David Moyes takes another turn as Julen Lopetegui enters the picture.

West Ham’s recent drubbing by Crystal Palace coupled with Moyes‘ contract expiring this summer fuels rumours of his exit.

The intermediaries who brokered talks with Ruben Amorim have now presented West Ham with another option – former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Julen Lopetegui.

West Ham isn’t putting all their eggs in one basket. They are actively assessing other options, including Fulham’s Marco Silva, Wolves’ caretaker manager Gary O’Neil, Lille’s Paulo Fonseca, and Feyenoord’s Arne Slot.

Marco Silva’s hefty release clause of around £15 million could be a stumbling block for West Ham‘s owners but despite the price tag concerns, West Ham fans seem generally enthusiastic about the potential of several names on the shortlist.

While new candidates emerge, West Ham might still favor Ruben Amorim. However, the situation remains fluid, and anything can happen.

With such a diverse group of managers to consider, West Ham’s managerial search intensifies. The coming weeks will be crucial as the club meticulously evaluates each candidate to find the ideal successor who can lead them to a brighter future.

Lonely Moyes a manager in limbo

Let me be perfectly clear—I firmly believe that it’s time for David Moyes to be replaced as West Ham manager, and the timing couldn’t be better.

Moyes is out of contract at the London Stadium in three months, but that’s not the only reason for a change. The team is unlikely to qualify for European football next season, several players’ contracts are expiring, and many others are nearing the end of their careers.

Additionally, West Ham’s famed Academy of Football has just produced its most promising crop of young players in 30 years, signalling that we’re at the end of a cycle.

However, the actual end of that cycle is still a month away. Due to West Ham’s botched attempt to recruit Sporting Lisbon coach Ruben Amorim yesterday, Moyes now knows his days are numbered.

Moyes-West Ham-Dead man walking

It will be a tough task for David Moyes to get his message across to the West Ham squad

This raises the question: How will Moyes possibly motivate himself or his players between now and the season’s end? The Hammers have matches against Liverpool, Chelsea, Luton, and Manchester City coming up, with a “dead man walking” leading the club.

It will not be easy for Moyes to motivate himself for what is ultimately a thankless task. Moreover, it will be challenging to galvanise a team of players who are either about to depart themselves or acutely aware that Moyes is leaving.

It’s a tricky yet fascinating situation, and one that David Moyes will do well to navigate.

Potter to West Ham? There’s more chance of Moyes staying

Potter to West Ham? Why the bookies have it wrong

Graham Potter has next to no chance of landing the West Ham manager’s job despite being the second favourite with some bookmakers to replace David Moyes at The London Stadium.

In fact, it is far more likely that Moyes would remain in charge rather than Potter being appointed by the club. The former Chelsea boss most certianly harmed his reputation during his stint at Stamford Bridge. However, the West Ham board were also far from convinced that he was the architect of Brighton’s good form under his guidance.

Graham Potter is one of the candidates to replace Moyes

Moyes replacement? Graham Potter is one of the favourites but West Ham are not believed to be interested.

Moyes’ days at West Ham do appear to be numbered though, with neither the club nor Moyes himself expecting to sign a contract renewal. As mentioned earlier on Claret & Hugh, West Ham will continue working through Tim Steidten’s list despite a rebuttal from Ruben Amorim.

Despite not featuring in this morning’s list of bookies’ favourites for the West Ham job, former Wolves manager Julen Lopetegui is thought to be a prime candidate. Lille manager Paulo Fonseca can’t be ruled out either; there have been agents working behind the scenes offering him to West Ham for the past six months, and he remains a real contender.

Five to watch in the Championship

Guest post by Rory Matloob

Which players and managers from the Championship should the Hammers look to
snap up next season?

Central attacking midfielder: Sammie Szmodics

The midfielders form this season has been off the charts, back in the summer of
2022 Szmodics signed for Blackburn for an undisclosed fee. The 2022/23 season
was an adjustment season for the Irishmen as he was only able to register seven
goals and five assists in forty-three appearances.

Hammers fan Sammie Szmodics

This season he’s really took the reigns as being Blackburn’s star man with a
staggering thirty-one goals and four assists in forty-six appearances this season.
Szmodics’ goals have most certainly kept Blackburn above the relegation zone,
however there is still some work to do as Blackburn sit three points above the drop
zone with two games remaining.

With Lucas Paqueta rumoured to be joining Manchester City this summer, this would
be a great replacement. Szmodics won’t bring as much creativity as the Brazilian,
but he will bring goals to the table.

Left Winger: Crysencio Summerville

Just like Szmodics, Summerville has been his team’s most vital player this
campaign. The Dutchmen can’t afford to be playing another season of Championship
football, he’s shown that this season with twenty-five goal involvements in forty
appearances this championship campaign.

With Benrahma on loan at Lyon, it looks likely he will leave this summer, Fornals
already packed his bags for Betis this January and Cornet has struggled to make an
impact since signing from Burnley. A left winger is a must signing for us this summer
window.
A difficult factor with signing Summerville is the price, if Leeds get promoted, they
won’t want to sell their biggest asset, but if they do it may cost us up to £55 million
for his signature.

Right Back: Kyle-Walker Peters

The Southampton right-back has been a joy to watch this year under Russel Martin.
With Premier League experience already, having made one hundred and fifteen
appearances in the division there will be no need for any adjustment period for the
English right back.

Coufal has been an excellent signing for the club, but he also needs somebody
challenging him for his place and Walker Peters is just the man for that job. With
Southampton not in the automatic places to be promoted they may not be playing
Premier League football next year, someone of his ability should be playing in the
Premiership week in week out.

Managers:

Russel Martin- Southampton manager

Russel Martin has been managing in the Championship since 2021 and now it’s time
he takes that step up to show everyone what he can do at the highest level. His work
at Swansea was a learning curve for the coach as he finished 15 th in 2022 and then
10 th in 2023.

Eyebrows would have been raised after the start Southampton got off to this season,
in September they lost four games on the bounce, and it looked to be a miserable
season for the Saints.

Martin and his players put that rough patch of form behind them as they then went
on a twenty-two-game unbeaten streak in the Championship, the longest in the
history of the division.

His possession-based style of play has suffocated most teams this season, with
eighty-five goals scored across 43 Championship matches (joint most in the division
with Ipswich) there’s no denying his team get you off your seat.

Kieran Mckenna:

Kieran Mckenna was a part of Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s backroom
staff, however in 2021 he looked to progress on and become a manager. In
December 2021 Mckenna was presented with that opportunity as Ipswich came
calling.

His transformation of Ipswich has been sensational, when he was appointed, Ipswich
were sat in 12 th position in League one. Two and a half years later they are sat
second in the Championship and could pip either Leeds or Leicester to the title.
Something Mckenna is known for is his development of young players, at
Manchester United he worked with James Garner and Angel Gomes who have both
had solid starts to their careers. This year he has worked with Chelsea’s Omari
Hutchinson and Brighton’s Jeremy Sarmiento where he has got the best out of both
young stars.

Since Declan Rice and Ben Johnson, we haven’t really seen anyone break through
from the academy, could Mckenna be the one who starts brining academy prospects
through to the first team?

West Ham Fans Fume Over Kalvin Phillips’ Social Media Activity

West Ham United loanee Kalvin Phillips’ already troubled time at the club seems to be going from bad to worse. Following a disastrous 5-2 defeat to Crystal Palace, Phillips’ social media activity has further angered the West Ham faithful.

After the match, Crystal Palace‘s Ebere Eze shared a highlight reel of his performance on Instagram. To the dismay of West Ham fans, Phillips “liked” the post. This action is seen as a sign of disrespect towards his own team, especially considering the crushing defeat.

Former West Ham striker Frank McAvennie recently suggested that Phillips’ loan spell might be nearing its end due to his lacklustre performances and disregard for the fans. The social media incident seems to be fueling these sentiments.

Phillips’ struggles began with a debut error that gifted a goal to the opposition. Subsequent mistakes led to him being dropped from the starting lineup. His recent substitute appearance against Palace failed to make a positive impact.

The financial burden of Phillips’ loan, including his high wages, adds insult to injury for West Ham fans. They quite rightly feel they haven’t received a return on their investment, and Phillips’ social media activity only exacerbates their frustration.

With Phillips seemingly checked out mentally,it is safe to assume that all parties involved are likely eager for the loan spell to conclude.

No Red for Ahamada in West Ham Rout by Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace midfielder Naouirou Ahamada escaped a red card during his side’s emphatic 5-1 victory over West Ham United, and former referee Dermot Gallagher believes the decision was correct.

West Ham players argued for Ahamada’s dismissal after a challenge on James Ward-Prowse during the April 21st match. Replays, however, showed the incident wasn’t as severe as initially perceived.

Dermot Gallagher, analysing the tackle on Sky Sports News, highlighted Ahamada’s loss of balance and attempt to minimise contact. He concluded that a yellow card was the appropriate punishment

The incident occurred shortly after Crystal Palace took a commanding 5-1 lead, rendering the red card decision inconsequential to the final result.

No West Ham player at Selhurst Park  come out of the game with their head held high on what was a truly shocking day for the Irons.

West Ham in Bidding War for Young Defender

West Ham United are reportedly pushing hard to sign promising young centre-back Zeno Debast from RSC Anderlecht.

The 20-year-old Belgian has impressed since breaking into Anderlecht’s first team in 2021. He has already racked up 90 appearances for the club and is a regular starter this season with 34 matches played. His talent and potential have attracted attention from several clubs.

Debast’s contract expires in 2025, making a summer transfer a possibility. Sporting CP was previously interested in acquiring him at a bargain price, but West Ham’s strong interest could drive up the asking fee.

West Ham has been monitoring Debast for a while and has now identified him as their primary target to bolster their central defence. The Hammers lack depth in this position, and Ogbonna’s expected departure at season’s end creates a further need for reinforcement.

While Anderlecht was reportedly open to an €18 million offer for Debast, West Ham’s involvement could push the price up to €20 million with potential bonuses. The Premier League club’s financial muscle could be a deciding factor in this transfer race.

The Hammers are actively pursuing Debast and will likely leverage their financial resources to outbid other interested clubs. This move reflects our desperate need on strengthening their defence for the upcoming season.

Amorim chase ain’t over yet

Talk Sport is reporting that Rúben Amorim has rejected West Ham’s job offer. The Sporting Lisbon head coach flew to London yesterday where Tim Steidten presented him with an impressive presentation and a lucrative contract.

The 39-year-old returned to Portugal yesterday with his representatives but is now believed to have rejected the Hammers’ offer.

However, Claret & Hugh’s understanding of the situation has changed little from our update yesterday. Despite club sources remaining tight-lipped, we believe there is a shortlist compiled by Steidten and Amorim was at the top of that list.

Amorim has returned to Lisbon after reportedly turning down West Ham’s job offer

There are at least two more younger candidates set to be interviewed by the club. If no deal can be agreed, there are agreements in principle in place for Paulo Fonseca and Julen Lopetegui.

With so many conflicting stories circulating, it’s often difficult to know what to believe. However, don’t rule out Amorim using West Ham’s offer to flush out interest from Liverpool. Therefore, a slim chance remains that Amorim could still land the top job at the London Stadium, but Fonseca or Lopetegui remain the most likely candidates.
